Hong Kong HSI ETF
The HSI, short for Hang Seng Index, is the major market index for the Hong Kong stock market. Within the HSI you will find the 50 largest publicly traded companies bases upon market capitalization. There is a ceiling of 10% however preventing 1 company to outweigh others within the index.
Banks and insurance companies are the major players within the Hang Seng Index as they take up 50% of its value. I want to stress here that you must not make the mistake in confusing investing in the HSI with investing in China as the HSI is really an index with much more global characteristics.
It has come to existence since the late 1960’s and during the last decades it has performed as the role model for all other Asian stock indices.
Economically speaking Hong Kong was way ahead of other Asian countries but with other Asian regions and financial markets coming to the fore the Hang Seng Index has become more and more an index of its own strength.
